Early Thoughts on Twitter
Ok, I will freely admit I was a Twitter hold-out. I just didn’t get it. Or want it. Then I started hearing more and more out of SXSW this year and it was all about Twitter.
Like most new media, the only way to really get it is to use it. So, last week I signed up and began to tweet. I also began following some folks. Up to 28 at the moment. They include a few friends (though most do not yet tweet) and a whole bunch of cool media folks like Seth Godin and Guy Kawasaki.
Is it worth it. So far I would say yes. It develops a sort of instant community that brings you closer to folks you might never know how to reach in other circumstances. For instance, it was due to Twitter that I was able to get this blog listed on Guy Kawasaki’s AllTop. Pretty cool.
Over on Media Driving there are some more cool thoughts on Twitter:
“I’ve been reflecting lately on how Second Life has been usurped in the minds of many by Twitter as the social media thing-of-the-moment, at least in the mainstream. Each time I thought about it, I experienced a sort of cognitive dissonance – how could a rich and immersive, albeit somewhat clumsy environment be superseded by a useful but simple text-based communication tool that at it’s core is technically no more sophisticated than email or instant message programs we’ve had for years. ”
