An Alternative to Giving Away Your News Videos and Pics For Free to CNN – fizwoz!

An example of a breaking news intro graphic

A lot of people were excited to see that the new CNN iPhone app makes it even easier for so-called "iReporters" to submit photos and videos of newsworthy events to CNN.

The only complaint is that CNN does not compensate its iReporters and can even re-sell or profit from anything submitted without compensating the contributor.

So, it makes sense that someone else would try to come up with a better offer.  Enter fizwoz:

Launching today, fizwoz is an online marketplace for UGC photos and video of newsworthy events. After you download a free app for your smart phone, if you find yourself at the scene of a crash, crumbling or other breaking news, and your first inclination is to take footage rather than help out, you capture a picture or a video and upload it directly to fizwoz. Once there, you can slap a price tag on it and put the content up for auction where media outlets vie and ideally buy your image or clip (with fizwoz taking a cut).

Definitely a neat idea.  I've downloaded the App myself just in case.
