This is a very cute demonstration of recent augmented reality software that can create a pet for you out of thin air.
I can see this becoming something every schoolkid has – sort of a refresh of the Tamagotchi craze.

The researchers looked into the habits of downloaders before and after the law was implemented. They found that instead of reducing piracy levels, the piracy rate actually went up by 3%.

This increase in piracy shows that the French are not changing their downloading habits much, despite the tougher legislation. There is, however, an interesting shift in the sources people use to download copyrighted movies and music. At an increasing rate the French are using streaming services along with file-hosting ‘cyberlockers’ such as Rapidshare and Megaupload.

The so-called “three-strikes” law passed last year in France was supposed to shock-n-awe French file-sharers to cease-and-desist. Instead, as most critics predicted, the rate of piracy has only increased. The only thing that changed at all was a movement to “safer” methods like streaming.

Everyone agrees that the laws around copyright and piracy need to change, the problem is that those in power would rather see their own citizens or customers put in jail than see themselves lose market-share.

Mike Masnick once again shines the light on misguided and wrong-headed attempts by RIAA to make THEIR downfall look like OUR fault.

The whole idea that music, as a commodity, is no longer scarce and, therefore, economics around music must change seems so simple it is almost hard to understand why the RIAA refuses to accept it.
