Hey Ladies, Look! SheZoom!

Okay, at some point this whole “we’re on the web so we need a hip name” thing has GOT to end.  Seriously, why would you go though all the trouble of starting a professionally-sourced video website aimed at (it appears) women over the age of 25 and then call is SheZoom?!  What part of your market are you appealing to?

Yes, SheZoom is the latest entry into the destination-based video sites to enter the field.  According to Paid Content:

“The site’s programming is divided into channels for relationships, food, mind/body, money, tech, as well as beauty/fashion and entertainment. “Those confines make sharing videos or watching them, more palatable then a site that offers an uncategorized, free-for-all,” Artandi said, in a brief interview. The company has signed up several “experts” in those areas to produce video commentaries.”

This is a super-competive marketplace right now and trying to be in the position of destination and distributor is a tight spot.  So far, no one is really making money at this.  The site looks like it hopes to profit from advertisers like everyone else and there is certainly money to be made there but they’ll have to compete with everyone from Microsoft to NBC for the money.

Also, I can’t say this little interactive element of the site does a lot to advance the position of women in society…
